Alguma canções têm histórias interessantes. Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me é uma delas. Elton John escreveu a meldia em cima da letra escrita por Bernie Taupin e ao gravar a versao final não ficou contente com o seu vocal. Chamou Carl Wilson e Bruce Johnston (dos Beach Boys) para ajudar no arranjo vocal e mesmo assim não ficou satisfeito. Foi convencido a lançar a música (no LP Caribou, de 1974), que acabou chegando ao primeiro lugar nas paradas de vários países e ainda ganhou uma indicação ao Grammy.
A parte da letra em negrito é (para mim) uma das mais inteligentes já escritas por Bernie.
